Hello Caroline.

I have studied the Bible much.

:The Original NIV:

Jeremiah pg 1164 23.10.16

This is what the Lord Almighty says:

Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you:
they fill you with false hopes.

They speak visions from their own minds, and not from the mouth of the Lord.

.17 also applies to the scenario

Jeremiah 23.21

I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with thier message.

I did not speak to them, yet they have prophesied.

And 25-28 explains your question about possible/fake visions. The Faith discerns false prophets, false teaching, and false herectic doctrine.

Explained also in the Scripture above. ^

The visions in the Bible are of God spoken to the Old Testament Prophets.

What could apply to claims of visions from pastors?

Jeremiah 21.30

Therefore declares the Lord, "I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me.

.31

Yes," declares the Lord, "I am against the prophets who wag thier own tongues and yet declare, 'The Lord Declares.'

+32 Emphasizes false teaching and further expalins lying prophets.

+33 as well.

This is the context of preaching and prophesying with God's Word...

Jer. 23.28

Let the prophet who has dream tell a dream, but the let one who has my word speak it faithfully.

If it is contrary to God's Word then it's not from God.
